Who We Are

Mission

The AAF’s mission is to ensure that all adoptees have the same and equal rights and protections as any family’s biological child, starting with ensuring that all adoptees have U.S. citizenship. This includes but is not limited to: access to benefits and opportunities and protection from detention and deportation.

Our Work

To achieve our mission of citizenship and equal rights for all intercountry adoptees, the AAF is working to advance the passage of an inclusive Protect Adoptees and American Families (PAAF) Act. The bill has been introduced in the 119th Congress (September 2025)

About Us

The Alliance for Adoptees and Families (AAF) is a coalition of local, state, and national organizations dedicated to the passage of an inclusive Protect Adoptees and American Families (PAAF) Act.

Our network is made up of a diverse group of adoptees, adoptive families, grassroots organizing and advocacy groups, and allies—all of whom are working together to amend a technical oversight in the Child Citizenship Act of 2000. This oversight has resulted in the exclusion of thousands of intercountry adoptees from rightfully receiving automatic citizenship as legally adopted children of U.S. citizen parents.
